Gari mein jagah hai. Raste mein log hain.

Every morning, thousands of cars leave Gulshan, Jauhar, North Nazimabad and DHA for the same few office districts, most with one person inside and three empty seats. On those same roads, other people are paying for ride-hailing or bargaining with rickshaws to make the identical trip.

Petrol is around Rs 390 a litre and the price changes almost daily. If the car is going anyway, sharing the fuel cost is a real saving for the driver and for everyone riding along.

Petrol price last updated 7 October 2026.

How carpooling with Chalo Bhai will work

  1. Post your route

Drivers add their route, days and time window. Riders add their pickup, drop and timing. It takes a couple of minutes, once.

  2. Get matched on route and time

Chalo Bhai finds people whose pickup is near the driver's route, whose drop is further along it, and whose days and timings overlap.

  3. Meet, agree and ride together daily

When both of you accept, you connect on WhatsApp, agree the fuel share and start. Same people, same time, every day.

Like a Karachi carpool group, without the scrolling

Facebook and WhatsApp carpool groups in Karachi have thousands of members, and they prove that people here want to share rides. The hard part is finding your match among hundreds of posts. Chalo Bhai is being built to do that part for you.

  • Matched on your actual route

No scrolling through posts hoping someone mentions your area. You are shown people whose route and timing fit yours.

  • Recurring, not one-off

A carpool is an arrangement that runs for weeks or months. You match once and ride together daily.

  • Contact only after both agree

Your number is not posted publicly. It is shared on WhatsApp only when you and the other person both accept.

  • Women-only option

Women can choose to be matched only with other women, whether they are driving or riding.

What we're building so you can choose who you ride with

None of this is live yet, and no feature can guarantee safety. These are the tools planned for the first version, so that accepting a match is an informed decision.

  • WhatsApp-verified number

Every profile is tied to a number its owner has confirmed on WhatsApp.

  • Work or university email badge

Verify an office or campus email address to show where you work or study.

  • Mutual acceptance

Nobody can contact you until you have both accepted the match.

  • Ratings

Carpool partners rate each other, so good commuters build a record.

  • Women-only matching

An option for women who prefer to share only with other women.

Petrol ka kharcha, calculated

Take a 12 km commute in a car that gives 12 km per litre in city traffic. At Rs 390 a litre, the round trip costs about Rs 17,160 a month in petrol alone. Shared between three people, that is Rs 5,720 each.

A note from the person building this

I'm Mudassir, a developer in Karachi. I kept seeing the same thing in the city's carpool groups: plenty of people offering seats, plenty of people asking for them, and a mess of posts in between that made it hard for the two to find each other.

Chalo Bhai is my attempt to fix the coordination. It is a community project, not a funded startup. There is no investor behind it and no commission in it. I'm building it because the seats are already on the road.

Questions people ask first

Is Chalo Bhai free?

Yes. Joining the waitlist is free, and the app is planned to be free to use. Chalo Bhai takes no commission from drivers or riders. The only money involved is the fuel contribution that carpool partners agree on between themselves.

Is this a taxi or ride-hailing service?

No. Chalo Bhai is not a taxi, a ride-hailing app or a van service. It connects commuters who already travel the same route so they can share the petrol cost of a trip the driver is making anyway. Drivers are not earning a fare and nobody is being dispatched to pick you up on demand. Agar aap ko daily pick and drop chahiye, this is a carpool with someone going your way, not a hired car.

Is it safe?

No app can promise that, and we won't pretend otherwise. What we are building is a set of tools that help you decide who to ride with: a WhatsApp-verified phone number on every profile, an optional work or university email badge, contact details shared only after both people accept a match, ratings between carpool partners, and a women-only matching option. You always choose whether to accept a match, and we suggest meeting in a public place before your first ride.

When is it launching?

The app is in development and we are not announcing a date we might miss. Early access will open route by route, starting where the most drivers and riders have signed up. Joining the waitlist is the way to hear first and to move your route up the list.
